Edward Glazer: All matters related to Manchester United are decided by our family together

Hupu November 05 News Recently, Edward Glazer, one of the five Glazer family members who hold a controlling stake in Manchester United, publicly talked about how the family reached a consensus when it comes to major decisions about the club.

Since acquiring Manchester United in 2005, the Glazer family has held a majority stake in the club. In 2024, British businessman and INEOS founder Sir Jim Ratcliffe completed the acquisition of 27.7% of the shares of Manchester United Club, with a transaction value of approximately US$1.6 billion (£1.25 billion). Under the terms of the deal, Ratcliffe will take charge of Manchester United's football operations, assisted by Jason Wilcox and Omar Berada.

In a student exchange at the Kogod School of Business in Washington this year, Edward Glazer was asked why he decided to sell part of Manchester United's shares. He said: "We are a family company, and this decision is made collectively. Not every vote is unanimously passed 6-0, but Our family's philosophy has always been that as long as the majority of family members agree, we will execute it."

He added: "I may support the decision today, and I may not agree with it tomorrow, but in the end we are all a family. This is the way family businesses operate. The decision to sell a minority stake is also a joint choice of the family."
