L Equipe: Kylian Mbappe s club Caen will lay off 16 people in order to cut costs

November 6 According to a report by the French media "L'Equipe", the employment protection plan implemented by Caen, the French C club owned by Mbappe, has been approved by the labor department. The plan will lead to the resignation of 16 employees.

Caen Club has been practicing strict economy recently. After experiencing a nightmare in Ligue 2 in the 2024-2025 season, the Normandy team, which was relegated to Ligue 3, had to adopt an employment protection plan.

According to reports from "Voice of Normandy" and "Ouest France", the employment protection plan was announced to employees in June last year and was approved by the labor department about 15 days ago after being rejected twice. The plan will result in the departure of 16 employees in the administrative, marketing and commercial departments. Today, Caen has a total of 68 employees, some of whom had their functions restructured during the offseason.

Caen ranked last in the French Second Division in the 2024-2025 season and was relegated early in the 31st round. Currently, after 12 rounds of the French Third League, the team has only won 3 games and ranks tenth. The team has been winless for three consecutive rounds. The last victory was in a 2-0 home victory over Le Puy on October 3.

"Although the team was relegated and Caen had to lower its living standards, it still maintained a considerable budget (about 12 million euros), especially in order to continue to promote the club's structural reform." Faiza Lamari, Kylian Mbappe's mother and chairman of the club's family holding company, said in an interview with L'Equipe at the end of July, "The training center is still an important pillar of Caen's future. We are in the groundbreaking stage."
