Middlesbrough releases new club crest to celebrate its upcoming 150th anniversary

On October 17th, English Championship club Middlesbrough officially released a new club emblem to welcome the upcoming 150th anniversary celebration.

This new team logo will be officially and permanently used at the beginning of the 2026/27 season. In addition, the club has designed a special edition crest that will be used only during the anniversary season.

The design process of the new team logo lasted 18 months and fully took into account the opinions of fans. Its core design returns to the circular badge style that is loved by fans, inspired by the club's emblem during its rebirth in 1986.

The details of the team emblem contain many historical and regional elements, with the founding year 1876 printed on it. The full name of the club uses a thick serif font that symbolizes its industrial foundation.

In the center of the team emblem is the image of a leaping lion with a long history. Most cleverly, the designers incorporated two local landmarks into the lion pattern: the shape of the lion's tongue is the outline of the River Tees, and the shape of Rosebury Topping Mountain is hidden in the lion's mane.
