Parker’s team’s salary is lower than EuroBasket’s requirements and may be disqualified. I intend to be an NBA coach.

October 21st European media Eurohoops reported that former NBA player Tony Parker’s team and French Ligue 1 club Lyon Villepinte were revealed to be planning to withdraw from EuroBasket and join another European basketball competition, the Basketball Champions League (BCL), and eventually join the NBAEurope league created by the NBA.

Although nothing has been finalized, Lyon Villepinte is also at risk of being expelled from UEFA EuroBasket because they failed to meet the financial requirements of the A-level license - that is, the minimum total salary of the team's players is 5.85 million euros, or equivalent to 30% of the average income of the A-license club.

According to public data from the French Professional League, ASVEL’s player salary is only 4.55 million euros, which is far lower than the European Basketball Federation’s requirements. EuroBasket even has the power to evict it, or shareholders decide not to renew its license. But in fact, their original Class A license will also expire, and the team and UEFA have not yet signed a new agreement.

At the same time, team owner Tony Parker has publicly stated that he hopes to become an NBA head coach in the future, which has also intensified rumors that he may sell all or a majority stake in the club.
