Sport1: Gretzka cannot leave the team this summer, and will definitely enter the last year of the contract

Hupu, August 5th, Leon Gretzka's contract with Bayern Munich will last until the summer of 2026. However, the Munich club has now reportedly changed its mind and the former Schalke player's transfer is deemed impossible.

At least, German media Sport1 reported that after Joao Palinia transferred to Tottenham, Gretzka's transfer was "immediately impossible". According to the TV station, Bayern Munich will surely enter the final year of the 30-year-old's contract.

Last year, the midfielder was regarded as a target for abandonment by Sebena Street Club and they were happy to give up the high-paying player. According to Sport1, Bayern Munich believes that the midfielder is "overvalued and has passed its peak." Due to injuries to midfielders, Gretzka returned to the starting lineup under the leadership of head coach Vincent Kompany last season.

Whether this 61-time player will continue to wear Bayern Munich's jersey after June 2026 remains to be seen. If renewal becomes possible, the former Schalke 04 player will likely have to accept a substantial salary cut.
