Saka: England have talent and quality, we can definitely go far in the World Cup
October 29th: In an exclusive interview with Arsenal and England forward Saka, he talked about the feeling of returning to his alma mater, the significance of representing England in the World Cup and head coach Tuchel. How does it feel when you return to your alma mater and see the children’s reactions? I think it's always a wonderful feeling, walking in and seeing kids react like that. Did you expect this reaction? It's a little expected, but it feels sweeter when you're actually in it. I've been back several times and done a few projects here, but I think today was definitely my favorite. It was really beautiful to see the kids show and hear all the things they had to say. How did this school shape you? This school shaped me, you just have to walk around and see everything around you to understand the values they teach here. You can probably see them in me too. What is your best memory in school? Is it related to football? I would probably say making history was one of the best moments because my team and my brother's team were the first team here to win the trophy and they retired my jersey. I wear size 10 so no one will ever wear it again. How do you feel sitting on the playground of your alma mater now? Sounds crazy, but this is my life, everything is a gift. Are you grateful for this? I don’t take anything for granted and I am always grateful to God for putting me in the position I am in today. Many people think that England’s qualification for the World Cup is a given? I feel like in this country, it's kind of overlooked because of the talent that we have. There was a bit of an expectation that we would make it so it wasn't taken as a big deal, but there are a lot of great players, important players in the history of the game, who have never played in a World Cup. Are you looking forward to participating in the World Cup again? It's great that we're back there again and hopefully I get the chance to play in my second World Cup and that I can go further than the last one. How do you evaluate head coach Tuchel? I think he is a top coach with a great tactical understanding and also in terms of getting along with people, he is very demanding and he knows how to get the best out of his players. Tuchel seems to have opened the door for all players? Every player in this country has the opportunity to participate in the World Cup, and he has created an environment that is open to anyone. It depends on how much you want it? How well can you perform? So it's a competitive environment, but I really believe he's going to get the best out of the players and at the end of the day, we're here for the country and trying to make the country win. That's what's on everyone's mind right now. Tuchel emphasizes the team above all else. Is this consistent with the values you learned in school? I feel like that's the best way, I feel like if you work as a team, especially with the talent and quality that we have, we can definitely go very far in this World Cup.
