Yin-Yang Old James? Agent Falke: If Jordan chooses to partner with two stars, he has already won 15 championships

On May 21, former NBA agent David Falke attended the 4th SBJ Sports Business Conference. In the interview, he talked about his former agent Jordan and other clients, and also talked about his views on James. He pointed out that if Jordan could choose the team himself and partner with two superstars, he would have already won 15 championships.

Falke estimates that nearly three-quarters of NBA contracts today are "negotiable" - that is, fixed rookie contracts, maximum salary contracts, base salary contracts or special contracts. He also said that increasingly competitive situations have led to lower commission fees.

He also criticized the current "NBA player empowerment era". He claims that this era is not necessarily new, because athletes have always had influence – just look at his most famous clients – but the key is how players use influence. "I've made many deals, but I'll never do it publicly. It'll devalue the sport you make money," said Falke. Falke recalls the early boom of the Jordan brand, but he also remembers the tough times when he represented the Bulls star, such as in the early 1990s when he was found paying tens of thousands of dollars to the infamous liar Slin Bowler for gambling on a golf course. Falke said he thought Jordan would fire him after confronting him at a lunch meeting on issues of public apology for the incident.

But as Falke said: "(Jordan) apologizes to his parents, apologizes to his boss, apologizes to his teammates-and then things are over. If you think I want to confront Jordan-hell, don't. But if you want to have a relationship with someone like this, or a relationship with someone like Coach K, they have to always know that when they ask you for advice, you never back down, don't mess with them, and tell them exactly what you think." Falke made it clear that he hasn't spoken with this former client since he announced that Jordan would appear in NBC Sports' NBA coverage. But when asked whether he thought Jordan would do well on TV, he gave a straightforward prediction.

Falke said: "I would be surprised if he (Jordan) could appear three times. This is just a personal opinion, I haven't asked him yet."

When asked who was the "Greatest Player in All Time" (GOAT) in his heart, Falke quickly replied that it was Jordan. When asked about second place, he said it was Jabbar or Kobe.

Is James on his top ten?

"Probably," Falke said, and then said the most eye-catching sentence of the day: "I really like LeBron," he said, "but I think if Jordan had chosen the team he wanted to join and partner with two other superstars, he would have already won 15 championships."
