No point guard lineup! Booker + Green! The Suns’ new potential?

For the Suns in the new season, although Durant was replaced by Jaylen Green, it is undeniable that point guards are still a scarce resource for the team.

In the current lineup, the only pure point guard is 26-year-old Colin Gillespie. Even though he has gradually entered the bench rotation last season, the overall organizational value is still lacking.

So, will the Suns in the new season usher in another period of offensive chaos and unorganized destruction? As the core of the organization after Paul left the team, can Booker maintain the current organizational connection value and achieve the maximum offensive potential?

In a previous interview, Booker gave his own answer, and he believes that the team does not need a traditional point guard in the new season. When talking about possession, Booker directly stated:

"I think this started with Jaylen Green and I both scoring ability. Once we become a threat, we can naturally create opportunities for others to score more easily."

Looking back at the history of the Suns, Jason Kidd, Steve Nash, Chris Paul... These names are synonymous with the league's top point guards, but when the Suns do not have these core guards in the new season, the ball will naturally fall more in the hands of Booker and Green, two non-traditional point guards.

Borrowing the interview content of Booker, he wants to try some different styles of play in the new season:

"Overall, the pace of playing should be fast and advance as soon as possible."

The traditional lineup system with the core of point guards usually means a positional battle with a slower pace, but such a slow pace is obviously not in line with the lineup style of the Suns in the new season. The team has greatly improved the core players' athletic talent during the offseason, and rapid conversion and high-intensity conversion counterattacks will be the core strategies of the Suns offensive end.

Around two shooting guards, the Suns' style of playing in the new season is very clear. Not only do they need to rely on Booker and Green's ball control attack, but the other 1-4 players must have the ability to make quick decisions and attacks. In the conversion offense, scoring opportunities are created around Booker and Green's speed and pass advantage. In the half-time offense, the double guards still control the core position to ensure that the team's offensive and defensive rhythm is not disrupted. An important part is that Green's athletic ability can create pressure on the basket, and he can also oppress his opponent's defensive rotation without the traditional point guard organization, thereby creating an offensive advantage. As for Booker, as the team's best organizational defense point, he is also a chance for Green to learn and complement each other.

There is no traditional point guard in charge, and the other hand, the advantage is the diversity of defensiveness.

The small point guards often have limitations on the defensive end, but the advantage lies in the versatility of Booker and Green, which can make the Suns' dilapidated defense more flexible last season.

From the perspective of expectations, among the core lineups of the Suns in the new season, such as Booker, Green, Ryan Dunn, Dillon, etc., if the whole team defends online, even if the Suns' defensive advantage in the new season may not necessarily reach the top level of the league, they have at least a chance to reach a new high level since 2021.

Of course, the Suns' current lineup is not perfect, and they may still need to organize point guards to revitalize the team in the future. However, from the current perspective, Booker and Green already have the opportunity to make up for the vacancy of point guards by relying on speed and athleticism, and even make the team's fast-paced play the most anticipated highlight of the new season.

For the Suns, this may be a brand new offensive and defensive mode, and even if it may not necessarily achieve excellent results in the end, it can at least bring some surprises.
