NBA broke 15-year ratings record in the first month of the season! The total number of viewers exceeded 60 million and the number of views exceeded 30 billion
On November 21, the NBA officially announced that during the first month of the regular season, the total number of viewers of NBA national games broadcast on NBC, Peacock, Amazon and ESPN has exceeded 60 million. The league also pointed out that this is the highest viewing record for the opening stage of the season in 15 years. This data does not include the 2011-12 season, which started on Christmas, and Christmas has always been one of the most watched periods in the NBA schedule. Even so, the performance of the first four weeks of this season is still a very positive sign for the league, especially this season marks the first year of the 11-year, $76 billion broadcast agreement between the league and its broadcast partners. Currently, the number of views of league-related content on social media platforms operated by the NBA and third parties has exceeded 30 billion times, setting a historical record for the same period of the season. The league added that the sales of peripheral merchandise in the NBA official mall increased by more than 20%. This growth momentum is partly due to the "new generation of stars" promoted by the league, including Alexander, Edwards, Bunyama, Maxi, Flagg, Brunson and Doncic. In addition, NBA League Pass subscriptions increased by 10%, and users’ game viewing time on the platform also increased by 8%. Dazzling data performance does not only appear on various playback terminals. The number of on-site spectators this season is basically the same as last season. The on-site attendance rate last season ranked second in the league's history. As of the same period, the attendance rate of the league's venues was approximately 97%. As of Thursday, 10 teams have sold out all their home games this season, namely the Boston Celtics, Cleveland Cavaliers, Golden State Warriors, Houston Rockets, Miami Heat, New York Knicks, Oklahoma City Thunder, Phoenix Suns, San Antonio Spurs and Utah Jazz. Attendance for some other teams such as the Atlanta Hawks and Charlotte Hornets increased by nearly 10% compared with last year. Such a high ratings performance is also related to the exciting games in the first month of the season. There have been six buzzer-beating winning goals in the first 30 days of this season, tying the record for the same period since the 1997-98 season. In the first 30 days of the 2005-06 season and the 2014-15 season, there were also 6 buzzer-beaters each.
