Official: The American consortium has completely given up on the idea of acquiring Tottenham and refuses to make a formal offer
Hupu, October 7th: Brooklyn-Eric has confirmed to the London Stock Exchange that he has "no intention to make a formal offer to acquire Tottenham Hotspur." Eric's statement on Monday night ended 11 days of speculation about a possible takeover by Tottenham. According to a statement released by the club on September 26, the former DJ and technology investor had "informally expressed an intention to acquire" but was "clearly rejected." A source close to the Lewis family dismissed Eric's inquiry as "unsolicited and unnecessary interest" and reiterated the position that "neither the club nor the shares of the team's parent company ENIC are for sale." Following Tottenham's statement, known as the "take it or shut up" statement, the UK takeover committee gave Eric until October 24 to clarify whether he would make a firm offer to buy the club. He issued a clarification on Monday, 18 days before the deadline, ending speculation about his apparent interest in a takeover. Tottenham Hotspur issued a new statement on Monday night, acknowledging the "recent statements" made by Eric Consortium and Fire Eagles Football Club. (The Firehawks had confirmed on October 3 that it had “no intention to make an offer for the club.”) “The Board appreciates their constructive approach in discussions with representatives of the Club and the Lewis family and respects the Lewis family’s clear position that the club is not for sale. According to statements from the consortium, the club is no longer in the offer period under the City Takeovers and Mergers Act." The majority-owned Lewis family's plans for Tottenham Hotspur have been in the spotlight since the sacking of Daniel Levy as executive chairman last month. The Lewis family has since repeatedly insisted that Tottenham Hotspur is not for sale.
