Official: Argentina s Independence and Chile University s 1/8 finals in the South America Copa America due to security issues

August 21, August 21, South American Football Federation announced on its official website that it would cancel the 1/8 finals of the South American Cup between Argentina and the University of Chile due to security issues.

SAF wrote: "As the home club (Argentina Independence) and local security departments failed to provide security, the SAF Competition and Operations Department decided to cancel the match between Argentina Independence and Chile University in the 2025 Copa 1/8 final."

"In view of the relevant provisions in the club manual, but the situation has not improved, it was decided to cancel the match and submit the matter to the SAF judicial authority for further ruling. All information about events that occurred inside and outside the stadium will be sent to the Disciplinary Committee of the South American Football Federation."
