Newcastle switches to Chelsea scorer Jackson, strengthens the front line to deal with Isaac s potential departure
After missing his favorite target, Benjamin Sheshko, Newcastle United has turned its signings to Chelsea striker Nicholas Jackson, viewing him as an important goal to strengthen the depth of the center position. It is reported that Slovenian international Sheshko is close to joining Manchester United for a price starting from £65 million, which has forced Newcastle to adjust its signing strategy. Previously, Sheshko was the main target of the "Magpies" Legion. Jackson, 22, is considered a "reliable" option by several clubs, although not a top star. Jackson also had rumors with Manchester United before Sheshko became a priority target (Manchester United had also briefly considered Oly Watkins). According to the Daily Telegraph, Newcastle has now taken over interest in Jackson. Newcastle's plan is to introduce new players like Jackson to supplement and support the team's top scorer Alexander Isak, not replace him. This strategy is consistent with the team's previous pursuit of Hugo Ekitic, who has now joined Liverpool. It is worth noting that although Liverpool continues to be interested in Isaac and the Swedish striker has informed Newcastle that he wants to explore the possibility of a transfer, Newcastle insists on this idea of signing. Isaac had previously missed the team's pre-season tour in Asia and conducted restorative training alone in Spain (the club officially explained as injury management). He has returned to Newcastle but needs to be quarantined at home. There are variables in Jackson's future at Chelsea. With the Blues signing of Liam Delapp and Joao Pedro this summer, the Senegalese striker's main position last season is seriously threatened. Under coach Enzo Maresca, he may have been down to the third pick. Therefore, Jackson is considered a player to be sold for the rest of the summer transfer window. Early this summer, Chelsea's valuation of Jackson was as high as 80 million to 100 million pounds. But according to analysis, any potential transfer fee is more likely to be close to the £60 million when Pedro joined Chelsea from Brighton. Even if it is sold at this lower price, Chelsea will make a considerable profit from the player who signed only for just over £30 million two years ago. Jackson scored a total of 30 goals in various competitions in two seasons during his time at Chelsea, including 65 appearances in the Premier League and 24 goals. He had made his mark in Villarreal and missed the opportunity to transfer to Bournemouth a few months before joining Chelsea.
