September 14th News Recently, NBA legend Shaquille O'Neal was interviewed by PEOPLE magazine, and he said that he called Kobe's mother once a month.

O'Neal said: "Their mother has experienced a lot over the past few years, and it certainly puts a lot of pressure on her. Sometimes, she just needs someone to call to care for her. I don't know what it feels like to lose a son and a husband, so I'm sure she's suffering. I just try to make her smile...I can never see Kobe in real life anymore, never can. I should have called. He should have called too. We should have called. But he is busy, and I am busy, so always 'get together again'. Call your mom. Call your brothers. Call your friends you played with in college. It's always really long."
