James won the Sam Lacey Pioneer Award!

According to NBA reporter Law Murray, Lakers player James is one of the winners of the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) Sam Lacey Pioneer Award in Cleveland tonight.

Sam Lacey was an iconic figure in the American sports journalism in the 20th century and one of the pioneers of African-American sports media. He actively called on professional sports leagues such as baseball and basketball to abolish the segregation system. The award is awarded annually to those who fight for rights and interests for minorities, promote racial equality, and demonstrate outstanding professionalism in the field of sports, and recognize their pioneering spirit and contributions. Journalists who have reported on racial issues in the American Professional Sports League, pay attention to social activities of black athletes, or practitioners who have contributed to the development of minority media are likely to receive this honor.

However, James himself did not appear at the award ceremony. A student from "I promised" school received the award for him, and LeBron James delivered a speech through a video.
