Details of Billups match-fixing case exposed, revealing insider information and making $100,000

According to a recent report by the American sports media Front Office Sports, details of a sports betting case that has received widespread attention recently have been exposed, which involves a game between the Portland Trail Blazers and the Chicago Bulls on March 24, 2023. The indictment shows that some insiders leaked inside information in advance that "the Trail Blazers deliberately lost games to improve their draft picks," giving bettors an unfair advantage.

The game ended with the Trail Blazers being defeated 96-124, with a score difference of 28 points. It is worth noting that the Trail Blazers suddenly announced the truce of many core players before the game, including Damian Lillard, Jusuf Nurkic, Jerami Grant and Anfernee Simons.

Although Trail Blazers head coach Chauncey Billups was not directly named, the description of "Conspirator No. 8" in the indictment is highly consistent with his career. The document states that the person was an "NBA player from 1997 to 2014 and has served as an NBA coach since at least 2021." Billups entered the NBA as the third overall pick in 1997, his career ended in 2014, and he will serve as the head coach of the Trail Blazers in 2021.

The indictment further stated that "Conspirator No. 8" disclosed to the defendant the Blazers' plan to deliberately lose before the news of the players' truce was made public. The defendant immediately made a cumulative bet of approximately US$100,000 on the Trail Blazers' loss during a period when the information was not disclosed, and ultimately made a profit.
